On the left side of our homepage, we’ve added a direct link to the 1940 census pages for Gloucester City.

On our African American Resources page we’ve added a link to Who Speaks for the Negro. This is  an archival collection of 1964 interviews with men and women active in the civil rights movement.

A fun addition to our ebooks page is Munsey’s, a great source for hard-boiled detective fiction of the 1940′s (for free), including that famous lurid cover art.

On our Gloucester City Resources page  we’ve added a link to the local maps represented in the USGS Historic Topographic Maps Project. This website offers free, downloadable PDF format maps dated from 1901 to 1995 for the greater Camden area.

On our Medical Websites page, we’ve added a link to the National Cancer Institute’s Support Service Locator which can help cancer patients find financial and other types of assistance.

QandANJ service is ending December 31.

Here is a statement from the QandANJ website:

“The QandANJ.org service ends on December 31, 2011. Prior to this date, continue to access the service with your questions Monday – Thursday 9AM-11PM, Friday 9AM-6PM, Saturday 9AM-4PM and Sunday 11AM-11PM. QandANJ is not open on December 25th.”

QandANJ is a network of experienced New Jersey Librarians offering free live, interactive search assistance. Because of the source of their funding, Q and A NJ is a service for New Jersey residents and New Jersey students only.

Great for homework: EbscoHost periodical search app now available for Android

You can get it free at the Android Market.

•Choose which databases to search
•Limit results to full text or peer reviewed
•Sort by relevance or date
•Retrieve full text results in HTML and/or PDF formats
•Save results for offline access at a later date
•Email results to self or others
•Automatically save 25 most recent searches
•View cover flow display of results

In a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari, click on our EbscoHost link, and when you get to the database selection page, click on EbscoHost Web.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the link for “New: EbscoHost iPhone and Android applications.”

When you click on that link you’ll be asked to enter an email address. Use the address you have set up in your device’s native (built-in) email application.

Open the email on your device and follow the instructions.

You may need to enter your library card barcode as part of the process, so have it handy.

The app for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is available here in the iTunes store.

Exciting new music link!

There’s an exciting new link on our Music Resources page – The National Jukebox from Library of Congress!  Listen to free streamed recordings by music greats such as opera Singer Enrico Caruso, Broadway legend Al Jolson, whistling virtuoso Charles Kellogg, composer and band leader John Philip Sousa, and thousands of other artists.

Library website updates

We’ve updated our Kids’ and Movie Schedule pages with new program information.

On our page of Federal Government links, we’ve added a link for government apps available for iPhone, Blackberry and Android.

On our Home and Garden page, we’ve added a link for Extension.org, a website combining information from Rutgers Cooperative Extension and other extension offices throughout the US.  Topics  include gardening, pest control, home maintenance, and money management.

On our Jobs page, we’ve added a link for Best Places to Work, winners of the Employees’ Choice Awards, from the website Glassdoor.com

On our Music Resources page, we’ve added links to sources of information on musicians, musical groups, and their recordings–45cat.com and Discogs.com.

In our Catalog, index entries have been added for obituaries in the Gloucester City News from 1993 to 1998.  The index for other articles from 1993 to 1998 is still only available in the library.

On our Jobs page, we’ve added a link to Career Transitions, another new service to help you explore new careers, prepare your resume, search for jobs, and find out about short, job-related courses.

On our Poetry page, Resources For Your Rhymes – useful sites for slam/spoken word/performance poetry projects.

On our African American Resources page, The Exhibit of American Negroes – reconstruction of highlights from an exhibit put together by W. E. B. DuBois, Thomas Calloway and the Historic Black Colleges for the Paris 1900 International Exposition

Links to lists of music podcasts from the Music Channel at podcast.com,  digitalpodcast.com, iTunes,  and NPR Music.

In addition, we’ve added a link to the International Music Score Library Project, which offers downloads of sheet music for public domain works.

On our Art Resources page, we’ve added a link to the Google Art Project. It contains links to over 1,000 works of fine art. Using your Google ID, you can create and save your own customized “gallery” of artwork from the participating museums.

On our Parenting and New Jersey Resources pages, we’ve added a link to NJChildSupport.org, where you can access case information, fact sheets, forms, and more.

On our Newspapers, Magazines and Journals page, we’ve added links to the following online full-text magazine and newspaper archives:

AFRO-American Newspaper Archive, American Heritage Magazine, The Atlantic, Discover Magazine, History Today, Life Magazine Complete Issue Archive, and Smithsonian.

On our page for Literature Study Guides, we added a link to the archive of the Paris Review, which contains interviews with major authors as far back as 1953.

On our page for Jobs, we added a link to Workforce New Jersey, a part of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development website they call “New Jersey’s Virtual One-Stop.”
