“FOOD FOR FINES” campaign at the Library starts November 23

Posted by gloucestercitylibrary on November 17, 2011

Gloucester City Library Director Elizabeth Egan has announced that the Gloucester City Library will host a “Food for Fines” campaign to help support the Gloucester City Food Bank. Library patrons are encouraged to “pay” overdue fines with donations of non-perishable food items that will be given to the Food Bank.

“I encourage residents to support this worthwhile effort regardless of whether or not they have a fine,” stated Egan. “It is a wonderful opportunity to help those in need in Gloucester City and to celebrate the many services provided by our library.”

Among the food bank’s most needed items are Cheerios, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, baked beans, dry pasta, canned vegetables and fruit and instant potatoes. However, any donation of unexpired, non-perishable food is welcomed. Packages that are rusty, opened, damaged or otherwise compromised cannot be accepted.

For each item donated, $1.00 in fines will be removed from a library card holder’s record. Donated items cannot be used to defray the cost of unreturned library materials.

Donations of food in lieu of fines will be accepted at the library November 23 through December 21. Call the library at 456-4181 with any questions.
