PIN Numbers Are Coming

Posted by gloucestercitylibrary on July 7, 2009

Do you use your library card number to place your own requests through our catalog, or to check the status of your library record?

As of  July 7th our catalog will require you to use a PIN (personal identification number) along with your library card number.  PIN numbers will provide additional security for your library account.  The catalog will prompt you to create a PIN number the first time you try to access a service where a PIN is required.

Your PIN must be four digits long.  Choose a number that is easy for you to remember but does not repeat more than three digits in a row, or a set of two numbers more than once.  (Examples of PIN numbers that will not work: 1111 or 1212).  Write down your PIN in a safe place – you will need it EVERY TIME you log into your library record.

If you forget your PIN, you can reset it yourself if you have given us an email address as part of  the contact information in your library record.  Otherwise, you will need to ask a staff member to clear the PIN so that you can set a new one.  Library staff cannot see your PIN number and cannot set it for you.

If you would like to provide an email address to the library, or have changed your email address, please ask a library staff member to update your library record.

More help with your job search at the Library

Posted by gloucestercitylibrary on May 29, 2009

With the help of Ebsco and the New Jersey State Library, we now offer free access to Ebsco’s Career Library. The website covers career planning and research, college information, financial aid, and test preparation. Watch videos about occupations, and use self-quizzes to uncover your career preferences and current skills. Some materials available in Spanish. Enter your library card barcode number to log in.

Beginning June 4, the Gloucester City Library will offer assistance with online applications for unemployment benefits. “Many people are getting a busy signal when they try to apply by phone for their unemployment checks and many people aren’t familiar enough with computers to apply online. That’s where the library steps in. Our librarians will guide applicants through the maze of forms and the process will be completed electronically,” says library Director Elizabeth Egan. Librarians Erica Cathers, Deena Worrell, and Christie Peterson, all trained in the intricacies of the online system, will hold regularly scheduled, personalized “lessons”. Gloucester residents (non-residents cannot be accommodated) are urged to call the library at 456-4181 to sign up. The library also offers help with online job searching and general computer education.
